Sea to Source

Bring your favourite machine to follow the Brisbane River as it twists from the sea to its source as we traverse the winding roads from our seaside Manly breakfast spot through Mt Glorious and Lake Somerset on the way to dine near the river's source at Warrior Restaurant.

What to expect:

Join us for a drive reminiscent of a Top Gear challenge (but less chaotic) as we trace the Brisbane River from where it joins the sea back to its source in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Starting with a group breakfast by the water at Manly Boathouse for a scrumptious and scenic meal, we then take a short drive to Brisbane Motor Museum. Once inside, we'll treat ourselves to a tour of the beautiful machines in the collection.

At the conclusion of our tour, the real driving begins. From the museum, we head to the bottom of Lake Samsonvale to wet the palate with long, sweeping corners. Turning off just before the end of the road, we ascend Clear Mountain for some tight, technical cornering and incredible views - Clear Mountain is truly a hidden gem of Brisbane driving roads. Coming down the mountain, we then drop into Samford Valley to travel up the Eastern side of Mount Glorious. After another twisting mountain ascent, we turn right to travel the rest of Mount Glorious for almost an hour of continuously twisty mountain driving.

At the end of the mountain, we turn right to head North towards Lake Somerset, one of the largest sources of the Brisbane River. Here, we'll take a small break to stretch our legs, bathe in the views and check out each other's machinery - Cars & Coffee style, just with less coffee and more water.

After the break, we'll head off towards our lunch spot, following the twisting roads along the lake up to Kilcoy before running along the bottom of the Sunshine Coast hinterland towards Beerwah. Our experience culminates with an exceptional lunch at Warrior Restaurant within the Crocodile Hunter Lodge at Australia Zoo. Warrior Lodge will encourage us to dine with a difference, indulging in modern Australian cuisine while overlooking native wildlife. The recipes of Warrior Restaurant are influenced by the unique produce Australia has to offer in a celebration of the region and the story of the Irwin family legacy. At the conclusion of lunch, guests are free to make their way home by retracing the route, or more directly via the Bruce Highway.
